FALL 2022 ALBUMS I'LL CANCEL MY FRIDAY PLANS FOR

Hi again! Welcome back to Click Track! I know, I know, I've been M.I.A. for a while. But worry not, I took a long summer break and I'm back more energized and with more musical content than ever. It's officially the first day of fall, which always works as an introspective New Years for me, and I take this time to restructure my goals for the last fourth months of the year. With the new season also comes a new wardrobe, PSLs, cozy aesthetics, and, my favorite, new music. There are so many future releases during the next couple of weeks that I'm excited about, but this list is all about the albums that will have me setting my phone in "Do Not Disturb" on a Friday at midnight. Let's get into it:

SEPT 23

Sad Songs in a Hotel Room (EP) - Joshua Bassett

Joshua Bassett took to Twitter on September 6 to announce that his debut album is not quite finished yet, but that this doesn't mean that his fans won't be having new music any time soon. He teased the album cover as well as a blurred out track list, except for the track Smoke Slow, which was released during the summer. I'm excited because I've actually enjoyed all his previous releases, despite him not being as talented as his two most famous exes. (Shoutout to Sabrina Carpenter's emails i can't send album for being basically perfect).

SEPT 30

Fossora - BjÖrk

A Björk album is always synonym for incredible album artwork, and Fossora is not an exception. Styled by Korean designer Jisoo Baik and photographed by Vidar Logi, Björk explained that the title of the album is "a word I made up. It is the feminine of fossore (digger, delver, ditcher), so in short it means 'she who digs' (into the ground)". She further tells that the feeling that she "tried to shape into sound" in this record was the feeling of "landing on earth and diffing my feet into the ground". The lead single "Atopos" was released on September 6th with an accompanying music video.

NYMPH - Shygirl

In case you don't know Shygirl yet, she is the U.K.'s rising experimental pop star. I have only discovered her recently but immediately became obsessed with her sound: glittery overproduction, bass, bass, bass, and silky vocals. I have already checked out the pre-released songs and have only gotten me even more hyped about her.

Entergalactic - Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi's eighth studio album is one of the year's most awaited projects, even more so now that it has been supposedly leaked with, uhm, a few, uhm, audio additions. Fingers are pointing towards producer Mike Dean who had a recent fall out with Cudi, but he's since, of course, denied this is true. The rapper also announced the release of an accompanying adult animated special of the same name on Netflix which will be released on the same date as the album.

Empire Central - Snarky Puppy

"Tell me you studied at Berkee without telling me you studied at Berklee". What can I say, I love Michael League and Cory Henry. So much so, that I've seen them live six times. Can't wait to jazz it up a bit with these guys.

OCT 7

Charlie - Charlie Puth

A fellow Berkleeite, Charlie Puth has been the artist to really take advantage of TikTok to promote his music. His songs weren't even finished (wink, wink) and his fans already had the chorus to Light Switch memorized. I actually vibe with his music and especially think his production chops are incredible. This album should also mark a before and after in Charlie's career, since he revealed on an interview on Ellen that he had a "wake-up call" when Sir Elton John told him his music "sucked". Good for you for not taking that personally, Charlie!

Hysteria - Indigo Sparke

Indigo Sparke hasn't been around for too long, but she's already earn a spot within the indie darlings. Her 2021 debut album Echo is an exquisite collection of ambient folk songs with powerful storytelling, and her music completely captivated me. She's teamed up with The Nationals for Hysteria and, as everything that involves Aaron Dessner, the album promises to be sparkly, plucky, and reflective. The single "Pressure In My Chest" is definitely one of my favorite songs of this year.

OCT 14

Being Funny in a Foreign Language - The 1975

I have been a fan of this multi-genre band since their 2018 album A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships, in which, for me, the song Sincerity is Scary was the definite highlight. For their fifth record, Matty Healy's band has teamed up with pop and indie music's most coveted producer Jack Antonoff and together they have come out with 11 songs, an incredible curatorial effort compared to the 23 songs on their previous album. This is one I'm very excited for and one I know I will have on repeat for a long, long time.

Return of the Dream Canteen - Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Only a few months after releasing Unlimited Love, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers announced their second album of 2022. “We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been. Just for the fun of it we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long we started the mysterious process of building new songs. A beautiful bit of chemistry meddling that had befriended us hundred of times along the way." Their thirteen everything we are and ever dreamed of being."

OCT 21

Midnights- Taylor Swift

It's TS10. Everyone's cancelling their plans when this album drops. It's supposedly her most collaborative album to date, and the rumors are that it will have a lot of sounds from the 70's.

The Car - Arctic Monkeys

I love this band, but I may love their fans even more. The cover album photo was taken in Los Angeles by the band's drummer Matt Helders and, as soon as the cover album art was announced, fans of the band went bananas on Twitter trying to figure out the location of the photograph and the model of the car in question, thinking it could provide hints on the band's musical direction for their upcoming seventh studio album. We will have to wait and see if an 80's Toyota Corolla was any indication of their new music.

NOV 4

Alpha Zulu - Phoenix

Their first album in five years, Phoenix released their latest single Tonight, which features Vampire Weekend's Ezra on September 7th along with a stunning music video. There's just something about this band's music that makes me feel like it's incredibly familiar, but still so refreshing.

Smithereens - Joji

I got familiar with Joji after first discovering him through his song High Hopes with Omar Apollo, and instantly needed to know more. Minimalistic, airy, nostalgic, intense vocals, lo-fi, and I can't wait to consume this album on repeat in the dark with my headphones in full volume. The lead single "Glimpse of Us" is a lyrically driven, authentic, brutally honest, hauntingly beautiful song.

NOV 18

Is This What It Feels Like To Feel Like This? - The Wombats

Like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Is This What It Feels Like To Feel Like This? is The Wombat's sixth studio album and second of 2022. I have to say my excitement is big and my expectations are high after the band gifted us with their skip-less January album Fix Yourself, Not The World.

TBD:

Paramore

Paramore has been teasing in social media and saying the band "will return in 2022" and all of us hopeful fans just want them to announce a new album already. Well, we didn't get exactly an album, but we will have their new single "This Is Why" to fill our voids for a little bit when it drops later this month.

SZA

The prolific songwriter has been vocal about issues with her label and her inability to drop an album after her groundbreaking debut album Ctrl. Yet, she participated in the chart-topping Kiss Me More with Doja Cat and in No Love with Summer Walker, hinting that she is soon to release new music, hopefully an album.

Cardi B

In an interview with Vogue Singapore in July, the rapper affirmed her fans that a new album will come "sooner than you think". It's been four years since her debut album Invasion of Privacy.

Normani

We're patiently waiting for you, queen! We're still here!

I hope you have also blocked out most Fridays for the rest of the year, because these upcoming releases will be incredible. I love the variety of artists, styles, and genres in the list.

Hope you enjoyed this new format and I'll be back with the latest on the music biz next week.

Musically,

Nicole for Click Track
